Hi Folks,

I've got a little beary query for you. I was just wondering what to do to prevent fraying round the joint holes of bears? This little issue is driving me mad...!

Can anyone help me out?

Thx. ;)

Hi there,

I must admit that on my smaller bears I do seem to use a lot of fray check round seams and joints.

If you cannot buy 'Fraycheck' where you live, an alternative can be made using dilute PVA glue ( 50-50 water) which you can brush onto the backing of the fabric, allow to dry and the fraying around the hole will be checked. The advantage with PVA is that although it is white, it will dry clear so no worries about any visible problems either.

When inserting cotter pins there is no need to break the backing fibre, just carefully ease the fibre joints apart to insert the cotter pin, some people use a ball pointed awl to make a small hole that does not damage the fabric its a handy tool to buy and can be bought at most bear making websites.
