Which was your favourite bear(s) (or critter/doll) of 2006 from those that you designed yourself and why?

I've put my thinking cap on and I keep coming back to three bears, the first two made in similar style, but for different reasons. 'Ooh la la' was made as a commission for a certain Frenchman's museum shop in French France. Eric selected the colours for his bear (boys always want blue!) and I took it from there. I think this bear definitely inherited Monsieur Petit's sparkle in his eye!

One of the commissions I was the most nervous about is another of my favourites. 'Sparkle' was a special commission for Santa's sack and I'm relieved to hear that my six year old niece has completely fallen in love with him! I knew purple was her favourite colour and I wanted to design a really special bear, with real six-year-old appeal!

Finally, I mustn't overlook Sunny Jim. I took a chance by seeking out a really bright, sunshine yellow mohair because I wanted this bear to get noticed. After all, he was my donation for this year's 'Dare to Care' auction in aid of the NSPCC, my chosen charity. As founder of British Bears on the Net's Dare to Care community venture, I couldn't let it slip by unnoticed this year, just because I wasn't in a position to run it myself. Fortunately, lovely Kathy Martin of Teddy Bear Scene magazine offered to take the weight off my shoulders and she ran the auction in TBS, which left me free to make a really special bear for the auction. I loved making Sunny Jim and was really proud to learn he'd raised £580 for the NSPCC and Dare to Care raised over £2300 in total!!

So there are my favourites of 2006, does anyone else have some to share with us?

I am not surprised that they are your favorites Paula, they are all simply beautful. I particularly love Sunny and well done for raising so much money with him.:6018:

Gus is a super bear Laurie! He's got so much personality! Will look forward to seeing your other favorites when the pics are ready.

As you liked her so much, I've hunted out a picture of Pearl, especially for you!

Ouch! Pets don't come cheap do they?!!

I'm planning another panda in this style at some point ... I have the same fabric in a very pretty mauve and buttercup and thought they would work really well together to make a very feminine panda bear.

So many ideas, so little time!!:p

Thanks Judi! I had a bit of a soft spot for SJ myself ... I had him for a couple of months before the auction closed and I had to post him off to his new owner. I was really pleased for her, but would love to have hung on to him a bit longer!

Apart from my avatar Teddy Bear Scene comp' entry ,one of my real favourites of last year was "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star";not because he won a competition (on another group where we had to illustrate nursery rhymes) but because he was a complete departure in design , a sort of fusion of my Hamsters and Bears..a much more Anime style which I felt I had successfully explored as I had intended !!:p He's about 2.5 inches sitting, and is made out of Kunin Plush Felt.

I like bears with a "babyish" quality sometimes , so will make some more !
