Hey everyone, I've been looking to pick up a really good book on bearmaking for a while now because I know a decent amount but there's so much that I'd love to improve on and a load of new stuff I'd like to learn. I've been recommended this book - 101 Bears to Make: From 3 Classic Patterns, but having looked on amazon, since it's out of print, the cheapest one I've found is nearly £140 - which I don't have :p

So, does anyone know where else I can get this book or what would be a good alternative. I'd love one that was quite in depth about needle sculpting/felting, trapunto work and other ways to do pawpads, tips on embroidering noses and making realistic bruins as such.

thanks!

I bought a really good book entitled "The ultimate handbook for making teddy bears" by Linda Mullins. On the front cover it shows about twenty heads of bears and are nearly all from the same pattern but with totally diffent expressions etc.
It shows plenty of ideas for noses, eyes, ears etc etc. I don't recall what I paid for it but the price on the back is $14.95.

Hope you can find your book at a reasonable price! :6086:

Hi Zoe

I've faced the same problems. A lot of the really good books which everyone recommends are out of print and sell for a fortune. I think the one recommended by Shelia is amoung those. :(

So far I've obtained a book by Ted Menten and Bear Making 101; 'an insbearational course'. Both have been pretty useful and Ted is especially good for looking at making your own patterns.

Hope this helps but I'm sure the more experienced artists will have their own recommendations.
