I need a little bit of advice.... I've drawn my very first pattern :D but I'm wondering if the head isn't a little bit on the small side. It could just be me. Yes it's a miniature bear and I was wondering if miniature bears have in proportion a larger head then a larger size bear.

It's a 1*1 cm grid which the bear is lying on. any advice will be most welcome.

As a general rule (so many of the books say anyway) is that the body is normally just a bit longer than two heads. I have jut drafted a pattern out today, and the completed head is 3" from crown to neck, and the body is a bit more than 6 1/2" long completed. And so far it looks ok at this unfinished stage. Fingers crossed etc.
Can anyone else come up with a golden rule of proportions :6044::6044:
Good luck Annette with your pattern.

As someone who studied art a looong time ago, I could possibly tell you with regards to the human body... but bears.. well that's a who different kettle of well, bears! :6086: You can have a tiny head if you want, or a huge head, same with bodies, hands and feet, long legs and arms, short legs and arms... I guess when it comes down to bears, it's what you want..

Speaking ofc from a newbies point of view :6033:

Thanks for the answers, The head just seems small compared to other small bear patterns a bit on the small side in comparison to the body even though is a bit more then half the size of the body.....
I think I just have to sew it all up and then have another look, and if I still think it's too small make a new head :p

I would say that I've heard the same as Shelia. Body should be just slightly bigger than 2 heads. Although on that piece I'd be careful on the muzzle/nose area as it seems pretty short. But definitely, sew it up, see what happens and improve next time.... that's what bear making is after all.
