There is currently a bear by Jenny Johnson for sale on eBay, listed by somebody other than Jenny. I really want one of her bears, other than the look and design of the bear, is there something specific I should look for to check it's authenticity.
How acceptable are bears which have been resold by a collector?
Many Thanks,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,
Jenny is a member of this board so she will be able to tell you if its authenticity is ok .The main thing if you want to buy from e bay is to check the feedback on the seller. You want 100% if possible and make sure that they have had quite a few feedbacks as established members of e bay don't want to ruin their reputation by selling dodgy goods.
Bears that are being resold can be perfectly ok although you have to bear in mind that they could have been kept in a smokey enviroment or older than what you think they are etc.Any worries you might have can be put to the seller before the auction finishes.
Hope this helps

Hi
I also saw the bear on Ebay. As has been said one of the things to check about the seller is their rating and whether the bear has been kept in a non-smoking environment. In this instance the rating is 100% and over 100 feedbacks, they also state that the bear has been kept in a non-smoking environment.
My own opinion of bears on the secondary market is that it can be a positive thing for a buyer. If there is an artist that you particularly admire and then see a bear by them being offered by someone else that is not necessarily a negative thing. Certainly my own hug has benefitted from people having to downsize their own hugs.
I know some bear makers find it difficult to see their own bears being sold on, however I just think about the pleasure the bear can hopefully give to their new owner.
I guess you can never guarantee that that a bear you buy on the secondary market can be genuine, however if it is by an artist that you admire you may recognise the style. The other thing to look at is the artist's web site and see if the bear looks to be in their style. Finally ask the seller questions, ask for photos of labels, tags. If the bear is genuine the seller should not mind supplying extra photos and answering questions.
Good luck if you decided to bid.
Hugs, Steffi

I've just read somewhere else that Jenny's latest auction and her Ebay ID has been hijacked by an unscrupulous 'scammer' on Ebay. I'm sure she'll tell you more herself when she arrives, but in the meantime, unless you are absolutely certain the bear is being sold by Jenny (she is listed here on the exhibitors list, so you can contact her direct) or it is definitely one of her bears being sold by a genuine collector, I urge you not to bid.

Stuart ...Hello it's me!! There is a bear on eBay..and it is one of mine. There is always a tush tag sewn into the rump and this has a little clock embroidered with it's hands on 3 o'clock. Anything else is not one of my bears.
The bear on ebay is 'Doodle' and I'd say it's about 2 years old, maybe more. It's one of my old designs but nevertheless is a sweet bear. Yes this is a kosher sale.
My own auction got pulled by eBay last night because some rat-bags decided to list cars and all sorts on my account after hacking into my account details..thankfully not my credit cards and bank account. Good job some kind soul reported it at 1am because I'd have had BMWs being scammed at my expense had they not done me a favour. There is a God after all!!
She's being re-listed at 8pm this evening and she's finishing on Sunday at the same time that the original auction was due to end...
By the way..thanks Sandra for you PM...you are lovely...I'll PM you later after I have wired the arms on this naughty bear that's looking at me as if butter wouldn't melt...they have minds of their own don't they, sometimes!!?

I contacted the seller today and she guaranteed me that it was a genuine Three O'Clock Bear, as 'Doodle' is wearing dungarees the sewn in tag must be hidden. The seller did sent me a copy of her paypal payment she made to Jenny, the bear was bought on 21/12/2004.
She certainly looks a sweet bear, somebody has beaten me to the chase and managed to clear the reserve price on the bear. I will leave my bidding for later on in the auction.
Many Thanks for your replies,
Stuart

You got that right................... When you are rushing - they do everything they can to be difficult. When you have all the time in the world, it all goes together like clockwork. Bit like traffic lights - when you are in a hurry - all the lights are sure to be red, when you want to take your time and enjoy the drive - they are all green. Go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!!
