I'm a bit slow but my first bear is coming along. As it's my first, I didn't use expensive mohair or faux fur, though it's not the cheapest faux fur I own, it is a cheapish one. So far I've a body, legs and one arm, I hand sew so it's slow going. I'm a bit scared of doing the head, so have left it till last. I'm really enjoying the challenge and learning loads.

On the 'Teddy Design' course, we do 'wet cats' first.
Here's my first wet cat, not the one I'm using for my first ted, but one I might do later.

He is so sweet. I love the shape of his tummy. That sort of look that says he wishes he hadn't had that extra helping of pudding! Well done, you are doing really well.

Hi , It's great to see a work in process, you'll have to keep adding pics as you go along. He will look different again with fur , but that's quite exciting.
Good luck !!!

What a great idea to do a baldy version first - he's a lovely shape. It will be really useful when you come to making him with fur, by laying the fabric over the top of his varous bits and pieces you'll be able to see if the pile length is going to throw and of his proportions out and then you could adjust the pattern accordingly.

Can't wait for the finished result.:)

I had to choose between to wet cats for my first bear. I did make him 14" because I fur I had (already) was long, so I didn't really have choice of fur length. But I've seen what you mean by throwing his proportions out, the fur does look a little long. I'll be making the next bear larger as I need to work with what I have for now. It's a lesson learnt though.....oh there have been so many lessons learnt..lol it's made my brain fuzzy.

I'm now making his face..........ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that is scary but exciting.
I've just painted some eyes for him, first time I've done that. (I also used 'nut and bolt joints', for his limbs, that is also a first for me. ) I've cut the fur on his muzzle and I'm going to try plucking the fur on his nose tonight, another first. lol

Here is a the 'wet cat' for the bear I'm making.

Very exciting! You're way ahead of me. I really like your hair (or is it fur?) -less version, I was going to do something like that first but impatience got the better of me I'm afraid and I headed straight for the mohair. I did make up a head however with some left over denim fabric that I had lying around, you know, just to see if it looked bear shaped at all. ;)

Keep the updates a comin', I can't wait to see the 'real' thing.

Well his head and body have not been completely closed up, they just LOOk like they have, the head is just pinned on at the moment. I want to do more with the nose and with shading. Also more with the paws, but until the joint for the neck arrives he'll do.
Tomorrow I'll start the next chapter.

These pic's aren't good, as it's night here and bad light, but it give you a little idea, what he's like. (the bottom pic is closest to his true colour)
In these pic's he looks a little foxy or angry, but he doesn't look fox like or annoyed. He has a smile :smt007

You have done a fantastic job for a first bear, mine looked like a 'rat'. If this is the stantard you have reached to start with, well, as they say, 'The only way is up' Well done.:6045: :6013:

oh it didn't feel quick at all. I hand sew and it took me days.

Thank you all for such lovely positive comments.:6013: I've learnt so much from the forums and the tips that are shared so generiously. I can see mistakes, but I'd be disapointed if I couldn't, after all that is how I'm going to be learning.
