Hello everyone,I'm new to this site, and forums in general.I would like some help to find out about certain bears I have in my collection, which I have absolutely no knowledge, other than they are sheepskin/lambswool teddy's,with ''Cudlam'' and ''Tinka Bell''labels,to me ,they appear to have possibly been made by the same company, but would love to have some information from anyone out there.Please.Thanking you in advance.Jan.

I've had a very quick search, but so far drawn a blank. I will look into this one in depth for you, as I do so love a challenge.
Do you have any pictures that may help to point in the right direction. Every tiny bit of information is a great help.

So, fingers crossed

Hi Sheila, thankyou so much for getting ''on the case''.I don't yet know how to attatch photos as new to computers, but will describe them a bit more. The Sheepskin Tinka Bell bears were made,I think,By Wandless & Plummer in approx. '50's-'60's. I have 4.other bears called 'Cudlam'bears, made of real Lambswool. They range in size between a tiny grey one of 8'' a large golden one of 24'' & 2.medium ones of about 14''.One is a Panda. Both he & the big one have a lovely 'growler',when tipped back then forward, they 'Baaaa, like a sheep.....Also,I have 3.''Bell & Bell'' sheepskin Teddies with wind-up musical boxes. All these Teds are Sheepskin & I guess '50's/'60's.I would LOVE to find out their history.None of the Teddy bear books seem to touch on them.......Many thanks for any help, love Jan.x.:6033::6034:

Hi Jan,
All that information is most helpful. Thanks a lot. I've really got something to work on now. If I find anything that looks hopeful,I will
send some pictures for you to compare with your collection.

I shall now don my Sherlock Holmes hat and see what I come up with.
Bye for now,
Sheila :6034:

Yep!!! I'm on the right track:- Plummer Wandless specialised in sheepskin bears in the 1950's. The company was formed by Daphne Plummer and her husband John. The Company traded from 1946 - 1972.

The following two bears were sold by Vectis Auctions on 6th July 2004. Tinka-Bell the sheepskin bear from the 1960's was 18" and had orange and black plastic eyes, a black suede nose and was fully jointed together with a golden artificial silk jointed 14" bear.

Unfortunately there are no pictures, and no mention of the price that the two bears fetched at auction. However, now that I am searching in the right places, I shall endeavour to search a bit deeper.

Guess what!!!!! I've just found a detailed picture of Tinka-Bell, but I have to scan the picture etc so I had better post this on the forum first and then come back to the scanning.

So watch this space.
Sheila

The previous two posts sent by myself have really given me the urge to track down this illusive bear. :6086: Well, I've scanned Tinka-Bell. Not easy as it's a really thick book and the words go fuzzy near the spine of the book.
I will continue tomorrow and see if I can get any more information.

Bye for now,

:):)Dear Sheila & Judi,Thank you for your lovely [& quick]responses & welcoming me to the 'Hug'!! The fab Tinka Bell picture is very like some of the Tinka's I have.[They seem to be smiling & have really sweet faces].I have a couple of tiny ones & a little rabbit,[about 6'']with bells on a ribbon round their necks. Where did you find the book Sheila.? You're amazing. All the books I see only seem to cover mohair bears or the Wendy Boston bears[which I also love]from the '60's.Thanks again for all your help.[P.S. The 'Bell & Bell' teds have very similar labels to the Tinkas, possibly related.? Thanks again to you both,Good night & sleep well,Jan.x.:6023:

Hi Jan, I was searching the various auction houses on Google last night, and the name' Pauline Cockrill' came up. Then I remembered I had her book entitled 'The Teddy Bear Encyclopedia' and there was the picture of Tinka-Bell.
When I find anything else relating to your hug I will be in touch.

Bye from 'Sheilalock Holmes' xx

You are more than welcome Jan. I have tried to track down the Cudlam Bears, but without any success so far. The sites I have found look rather dodgy and I don't fancy homing in on to an insecure site.
Anyway, I'm not going to be beaten, so leave it with me and I'll see what I can find for you.

By the way, we had Sunday Lunch about half an hour ago!! Time is now 8.50 pm.

Speak to you soon (with more info, hopefully)
