Hi all,
It seems to have taken an age but I've finally finished creating my very first bear. It's been a steep learning curve but I've loved every moment of it, well, except maybe the 'stabbing of my finger with a needle' bit.
Please say hello to Arthur, he's 12" tall, 7" when sitting.

I hope you like him, constructive criticisms always welcomed.

Well that is a very accomplished bear with lots of detail that first bears don't usually end up with!! You've clearly got an eye for detail and only you know what you'd like to change...with my first bears I knew straightaway and worked on ways to improve and I still don't think I have perfected it yet!!!
Is this your own design...if it is it's fantastic for a first bear!!!!!

Thank you so much for the lovely comments, I really appreciate them. I certainly haven't made anything like this before but I sure do love bears. He is my own design and he came out pretty much as I envisaged in my head. I knew that I wanted him to have a bit of a belly, and he's certainly got that, lol! :6086:
I made the claws myself from polymer clay which is something else that I've never tried before. I figured that as I'd had plenty of practise with the kids playdoh clay couldn't be that much different. The pads are made from ultrasuede and are padded out (he he) with a bit of polyfil to give them some definition. They were quite fiddly and took me a while to sew especially since I needed to master the curved needle. A tricky tool indeed.
Thanks again for the words of encouragement. :6088: (aren't these smilies just sooo great!)

That is a great first bear Lisa.Don't mention to me about curved needles-I could never get on with them as they are too awkward to hold:6021:

Wow Lisa! He's fantastic. As everyone else has said, are you sure he's your first????? You were very adventurous with the claws, they look brilliant. Can't wait to see what your future creations bring.:)

First Bear? Are you sure you haven't been making bears in your sleep for years?
Don't whatever you do show your bear to my bears, they'll all want noses like that, and paws like that, and smiles like that, etc, etc!
cheers,
G
