Accepting credit card payments at Bear Fairs

Could anyone please tell me the best method of accepting card payments at Bear Fairs without having a 'Bank' merchant account? Paypal and Propay have been suggested, does anyone use either of these for this purpose and if so, is it straight forward? Do both have telephone back up if required.

Or - is there another way that is easier?

I am not sure about Paypal or Propay...I'd be interested to find that out too. I do accept cards at fairs and have the old swipe machine. My dauhhter has a small portable terminal which she set up through www.chipandpin.com (it might be .co.uk) anyway it's very reasonable and works really well. You do need a merchant bank account though.

I use the old paper voucher swipe machine too. There's a minimum monthly surcharge these days and you do need a business account to set up. It's a bit frustrating if you do a show where you can't get a signal to authorise card payments on your phone too!
