Hi,
I thought that although this is a teddybear site it would be good to find some rabbit lovers out there. I started making rabbits about 8 years ago. I bought some mohair, eyes and joints and began making my own patterns. Two children and 8 years later I have returned to rabbit making. I didn't really get very far last time, I did have lots of rabbit heads with pen marks allover them where I was going to change the pattern, but I was never satisfied with the results. My back ground is fashion design so I am used to making patterns for clothing, but making patterns in 3D is quite different. I love rabbits and much to my husbands delight(?),there are many living on my bed, around the house and a real one outside. It does seem quite difficult to create a rabbit shape compared to a teddy, or is that just me? Anyway this time I am going to persevere and succeed to produce the rabbit that is clearly sitting there in my mind!

Shelly..I have to agree with you. There are many artists who make what appear to me to be teddies with rabbit ears and a bob-tail. I designed a rabbit pattern last year after much frustration and throwing away of pattern pieces and I am happy with it. Though it's not realistic by any stretch of the imagination it fitted my idea of a 'Three O'clock Bunny' and has a definite bunny look as opposed to a bear with big ears. Well...I think so anyway though some would probably disagree.

I think the hard part is defining the unique characteristics of any creature you set out to make in 3D because those characteristics are not always obvious. I made a squirrel last year and they are quite odd..they are mouse-like in one way..and difficult to capture the look of.

Here's the rabbit I came up with, this is the latest version:

PS: Sorry this photo is blurry...I just don't know what I am doing wrong ..I can't seem to work out how to get a decent sized photo on here without it being too large a file size or looking all blurry like this one does. Me and 'puters don't get along!!

Hi Jenny ,
Your little bunny is sooooo cute! And looks like a rabbit! You seem to have done a lot of sculpting, a skill which I am just learning. I am sure there is a temptation to keep trimming , unfortunately the fur won't grow back .I predict a few cropped bunnies. I'm going to try first with different lenghts of fur. I'll let you know how I get on.

Yep...been there done that...tip for the day..always get a bit of extra fabric!!LOL.

Seriously though...needle sculpting helps first...and then the sharpest scissors it's possible to buy ..and teeny tiny snips!!!

Let's see the results Shelly..if you feel like posting!!!

'Bunny'

Just thought I would put in a picture of my bunny, now that I've got this photo thing cracked. He is a lovely rabbit and has the run of the garden, he rules the roost and chases the cats.

Got to confess to that one Jenny! I've just made two bunnybears for someone (Japanese) :o :o

Flip ... oh no! I've just realised I've posted them and forgotten to sew on their bobtails too - the final insult!!!

Your bunnies are lovely! (*Mental note to self: Must try harder next time.*)
