View Full Version : So which was YOUR favourite?
All Bear

A thread for those of us who make bears, to show which of our designs we've been the most proud of and why ...
It's hard to choose a favourite because over the past twelve years or so, I've made sooooooo many, but if I had to choose just one, I think I'd plump for 'Miguel the Magnificent', a 32" bear made way back in 2001. He was commissioned by a lady in Chicago ... she wanted him for a little boy called Miguel in her local hospital. He had been in a terrible car accident and wanted a big bear to make him feel safe in hospital. Sadly little Miguel passed away before Miguel The Magnificent could reach him, so my customer gave him to Miguel's mum for comfort and to do as she felt appropriate with.
Some time later, I received an email to tell me that the mum had donated him to raise funds for a battered women's refuge she worked with and my bear had raised a great deal of money for them. I'd just done the job I'd been commissioned for and was paid for my work, but somehow the lovely lady who commissioned this great big bear, worked special magic with him simply because she cared so much for a little boy she happened to meet in hospital.

Hi Paula
What a wonderful bear but such a very sad story, poor little boy ........ I'm so pleased Miguel went on to help another very worthy cause.

Hi Paula
I think my current favourite is my avatar bear (thank you for your lovely comment about him on the other post:o ), he was a commission, but very broad in the brief - a clown bear and silver. He was lovely to make, and I was really pleased with the results.
Here are a couple of others that I'm fond of - now this all depends on whether or not I've done it right - here goes .......
Jess, a 20 " girlie,
28
and Seamus, another 20 inch bear. It's just as well I like him - he's a limited edition.

Lovely bears girls (I'm gonna get myself one of yours one day Paula - it's on my wish list).
My favourite bear is Cheeky Boy. He had such a great personality and expression............wish i had kept him really, but hey ho! needed the cash as usual.
Here he is.

I also kept some of my favourite bears too, my son wants them (he's just a big softee you know) so he'll get them when i pop my socks and hopefully he will pass them on to my grandchildren - who will probably whack them on eBay quicker than you can say knife, but that's life ain't it? ha ha ha
I just love naughty bears - i love the cute ones too but naughty bears are the best.

Penny, he's got such a great face! You've worked so much character into his eyes! Sad that we're always compromised by the need for dosh ... I'm just the same!
Clare, Princess Lily is very regal and very pretty ... no wonder she's a favourite with you!

Hello , I thought I might add a couple of pics to the thread. I am an amateur miniature maker in Staffordshire.I entered the first bear (3") to a competition in Texas , with another Bear Group. He didn't get any placing but I've always felt immensely proud of him :6013: the category was "The True Texas Ted" I spent a long time coming up with the design!

I've also included my avatar bear as I'm especially happy (grateful  )to him too, as he gained me a place for the 2nd year as a runner-up in the Miniature Category of Teddy Bear Scene's 2006 competition.I was amazed to be in such exalted company and I was sooo thrilled !:6045:

Hi Ruth,
Has your husband thought of providing a photographic service to other teddy bear artists and makers? If so, please suggest he takes a listing, we are very short photographers at present!!

Ruth,
I daren't show that to my little boy, he loves doggies so much. I bought him a miniature pup from an artist bearmaker last Christmas, but yours looks a quarter of the size. I suppose the advantage with minatures is that they don't take up much room. LOL:6088:

Oh you're so nice -thanks Judi and Shelly :) Minis are great for not invading whole rooms , but they still catch those pesky dust bunnies !
