I've seen some armature in a book that is covered in foam and has a loop at the end. Does anyone know where I can get it from?

Hi Shelly,

We have some in stock, but don't tell everyone, lets keep it our secret.

Give Judi a call on Monday to discuss the size you're looking for.

Have a good weekend

Loc-Line!!!! Do you sell it?????? Go on, tell me you do pleeeese. I have been looking around for loc-line for ages. I used to have a link to a fabulous website where they sold it for next to nothing but my old computer died and took all it's secrets with it!
It's so expensive i am tempted to cut up one of those bendy snakes (you know what i mean) and use them instead. I'm not tight honestly, but just how much should you pay for a bit of plastic?

Armature......what a pain :6022:

Penny...what size do you need..I have a lot of the 1/4" stuff...and the joints to fit. I use the smaller one, it's about 1/8".

I buy it off Artistique doll supplies..they seem cheaper than most..it's still ridiculous though.

Jen...............i don't care what size it is as i can make the pattern to fit, i'm so adaptable when it comes to saving money ha ha
Quarter inch would probably be perfect anyway Jenny........send me a PM

Wish i could remember the name of the website that sold it in huge amounts for next to nothing...........i am gonna befriend a plumber, they use loc-line for waste disposal type thingies (i can't remember exactly) or some industrial type wotsit doodad.

Thanks Jen :6013:

Has anybody managed to track down a UK/European supplier for armature, loc-line or whatever? I've checked with Christies and they don't have any, I'd rather not order from the US unless I really have to.

Hi Lisa,

Unfortunately, both the above products are made in North America and until we find the manufacturers, (which has proved to be very difficult so far) we have to buy them from the same sources as you. This means that at the present time our involvement would only add to your cost. If we ever find the manufacturers then we should be able to import them at a competitive price to you. In the meantime I can provide you with a source for both products in the USA and the Flex Limb in Canada. Give me a call on 01656 771623

Best wishes

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. I may well have to bite the bullet and order direct from the US then. Hopefully one day you'll be able to stock it, assuming there's enough interest of course. :)

The cheapest I have found for loc-line is www.shopartistique.com for flex limb you could do worse than try the foam 'bendy' permers (often called 'Molton Browners') that you could pick up at your local 'Sallys' hairdressing supplies. I've used them and they do work...they are designed to be bent so they are good for armatures.

Depending on the size of the bear though I use wrapped wire or doll armature.

I don't know if this would be of any help, it's a great tutorial by fellow artist Hayley Justice (she's so lovely!! ;) ) Simple and effective!! Take a peek....

Thanks for the info Jenny/Clare. I rather like the idea of the DIY link, looks easy to do, assuming I can source the bits of course. I'll have a scout around and see what I can find.

Hi Lisa,

Getting the bits is difficult. The electrical wire they use in America is single core and is pliable ie it will bend and hold it's shape. It also has a thin nylon sheathing (covering). I have the spec and tried to import it to the UK, unfortunately the manufacturer refused to sell it to me because of US safety legislation!! UK electrical wire is multi-cored and whips about, ie it has no memory and it also has a much thicker PVC sheathing.

What we do have here is armature wire, that bends extremely well and I am trying to get all the bits together to try it out. Will keep you informed.

There's always a catch isn't there, lol! I was looking at armature wire yesterday, it looks promising. I am very interested to hear how you get on with it. :6033:

Hopefully I can help. My distributor "ProBear" has something they call doll-armature. Hope that is what you are looking for. They have it in their shop: http://www.probear.com/com/shop/pi-1309878833.htm?categoryId=39

If you are looking for the wire with the foam around it then I can help you. They sell it here in the DIY-Stores and is used for binding trees/plants. Donīt know how much it was last year, but I can find out during the week. It is called "Flora-Tec" and it comes in rolls of 10 metres and is 10mm thick (round) and green ! If you still need it, just let me know - there should be no problem by mailing it from Germany to England (I mail it with "Hermes" (similar to UPS) - they are a little cheaper than "German Mail").

Oh, before I forget. I use the wire which is used to rewire the branches of Bonsai-Trees. This comes in many different sizes and the thick one is ideal to use in bears to make them more movable and it doesnīt rust.

Just let me know whether I can help with the Flora-Tec. :)

Iīve just been at the DIY-Market: 1 roll (10 mtrs.) costs 8,00 Euro (plus postage).

Angela,

Argghh! I thought that I'd checked everywhere for doll armature and I've been to your site several times too. I must have missed out the section it was hiding in. As a last resort I ordered in some modelling wire to try out, if I can't make it do what I want (i.e. it turns out to be a disaster) then I will be ordering some armature from you for sure. :)
