Hi
Can anyone please advise me on using fusible woven interfacing. I have a pattern that says to iron this on before cutting out the pattern. I have seen the rolls used for hemming, is it the same stuff but in larger sheets? Any idea where it is sold?

Hi,
You can buy this material from The Cheap Shop in Tiptree. We buy it by the metre.
I don't see any use for it apart from backing Ultrasuede paw pads.
Beware if you use a TomTom GPS to find Tiptree - ours dumps us at a roundabout in the middle of nowhere about 5 miles away from the town!
Tilly.

Thanks for the reply Tilly. The pattern I am going to try is a fabric bear and I am using a velvet type of material. It states to use this to cover the pieces of the pattern to stop the material fraying.
I really enjoyed watching your DVDs over the weekend and look forward to using your tips for making more professional bears. Thank you so much for the speedy delivery.
Would the tip you gave on the DVD work just as good, where you used tiny stitches to reinforce certain areas, but with being velvet should I sew all around the pattern pieces in tiny machine stitches before sewing together?

instead of using fray check and your sewing machine has the feature, try triple stitch its slightly slower speed, but joints are very strong, even on cloth materials, i use it all the time and when cutting out material, angle scissors so as not to cut through pile.

Thank you for the advice. I will try to sew around the material first then before sewing the pieces together and hopefully this will prevent the velvet material from fraying.

I use cotton interfacing on most of my synthetic fabrics to prevent it stretching. I don't iron it on though. I use a spray quilters glue. It's good for that.
I do use it on some of the loosely woven fabrics to stop fraying..as some are a nightmare and then I do iron it on as the fabric won't melt when I iron it!!
