Smile Hi! - another newbie here

Well, I thought I should drop in here and say hi to everyone and get that first post on here!

I've been making soft toys with my parents from being a tiny child but I've recently branched out into trying to make 'proper' bears as I used to call them. I make all the patterns myself usually, and at the moment I'm just getting a feel for giving each bear it's own little personality, I've recently discovered needle felting for paws and faces.

All this was really inspired by a beautiful collector's bear that my partner has bought me, and I've just got the bug to try and make my own. So i'll leave it there and head over to the show and tell forum I think

Hi There,

Welcome to the forum. Great to have another maker on board, fresh ideas are always fantastic.
Can't wait to see some of your creations and would love to see your 'inspirational' piece too.
Great work on creating your own patterns straight away I'm just starting that now. What sort of things did you used to make with your parents?

I'll post a picture of my inspirational bear asap! I used to make all sorts of things, I'd start out making simple cushions and decorating them with a marker pen, I then moved onto making clothes for my dolls and soft toys with my grandma as well as helping make some bits and pieces for the porcelain dolls she used to make.

Then when I got older we'd make fancy dress costumes and simple flat soft toys, then my grandma made me a mohair bear for my birthday and that set me off into wanting to make my own jointed bears, finally, the bear I've just been bought by my partner (I've already seen him and bears in the same collection around for a few years now) is my big inspirational bear to make me want to make beautiful jointed, weighted teddy bears and make each one have it's own personality

Hey there,

A belated hello and welcome to TBF from me.

It sounds like you already have a good foundation of sewing knowledge to jump start your bear making career. I can't wait to see your bears when they are ready to be introduced.

Regards

Lisa
